Spectrochemistry, PD Dr. habil. Davide Bleiner

Spectrochemistry bridges the historical separation between "preparative" materials science (=synthesis) and "validative" material science (=analysis). The use of lasers makes the process scalable and controllable. The team develop characterization methods, mostly based on the use of light sources, e.g. plasma, laser, fluorescence, etc., for the micro/nano-probing along with the morphological mapping of solid samples. Tabletop X-ray lasing is a unique challenge with many applications in science, industry and society. The smart processing of spectroscopy signals as well as new architecture for the acquistion are crucial tasks. Davide Bleiner completed his PhD in 2002 at the ETH Zurich in the group of Detlef Günther.

Air Quality & Nanoparticle Analysis, Prof. Dr. Jing Wang
Jing Wang’s main research interests include air pollution control, nanoparticle transport and emission reduction, instrumentation for airborne nanoparticle measurement, air and water filtration, and mechanics of multiphase flow. Many of his studies contribute to understanding of environmental, health and safety (EHS) impact of nanomaterials. The group focuses on materials for air quality monitoring and control, Instrumentation for nanoparticle measurement and characterization, nano-material emission, exposure and toxicity, Emission control and abatement by filtration.
