Rain tower test with reference to EN 14360

Protective clothing against rain - Test method for ready made garments - Impact from above with high energy droplets

Test procedure

With this test method, a ready-made jacket or coat is being tested under practice oriented conditions. A 1.85 sized, anatomically conformed, synthetic manikin equipped with 22 conductance sensors is dressed with the jacket or coat and exposed to defined artificial rain.

Under the jacket or coat to be tested, the manikin wears cotton underwear absorbing the penetrating water, so as to allow its visual estimation, and watertight trousers, with the waistband at the level of the manikin’s hip. Dressed this way, the manikin is placed in the rain tower, with a back-ward inclination of about 5°, one arm oriented forward the other backward at an approximately 25° angle. After the rain test, the size of the wet zones on the underwear is determined and the inside of the jacket estimated subjectively. Additionally, the first moment in which water has seeped through is, as much as possible, registered (reaction of corresponding conductance sensors, time in minutes).
